Hemorrhoids are inflamed vascular cushions that live inside our anus (internal hemorrhoids) or just outside it (external hemorrhoids). The first step of treating and preventing hemorrhoids is soft stool consistency and good toileting habits. Internal hemorrhoids can be treated in the office with rubber banding, infrared laser or sclerotherapy. Both internal and external hemorrhoids can be treated with hemorrhoid surgery.
